GALLERY
Steam locomotive enginemen were ordinary men doing extraordinary things. In our not-so-distant past they were instantly recognisable as cultural icons. But would we recognise them today? They are not so much lost as mislaid, a mistake which this site tries to redress together with a sense of the pre-digital environment in which these men physically lived and worked, i.e. its mechanical textures, its smoke and steam and its cast shadows. To that end, this gallery combines portrait, landscape and railway structures --and like its subject, it is international in outlook.
